The Bay Shore Children's Choir finally delivered their masterpiece "Elijah" this weekend to a full house on Sunday morning. They had worked for months with fits and starts, when very few children showed up, and it looked like they wouldn't be able to pull it together after desperate emails from Julie. But they did it; and, it was amazing! Of course, Chris and I complained about having to attend rehearsals and practices but it was all worth it when the kids delivered the show and the older members of the Congregation cried their eyes out.
Both dad and I served as stage hands for the play, lifting the set change (Mount Zion and Ahab's Palace) up-and-down, as well as to pull plants, alters, and other props on-and-off the stage. Dad missed one big switch when he delivered the wrong alter before his cue, but otherwise we did what we had to do. Christopher also delivered a riveting performance as a narrator, a skeptic, and then an awesome soloist. He has great pitch and a really nice tone which the pianist Robert raves about.
It was also the Church Fundraiser, lunch and auction this weekend and dad had to be the Master of Ceremonies. It was a fun event--Chili Cookoff and hoedown theme--with a lasso demonstration, lots of good prizes, and an estimated $40,000 raised! Of course, we couldn't give as much as we wanted this year because of the construction but Chris and I got to use our auction cards to donate for a few things.
Baseball season finally came to a close this week with a tie and a loss to finish-up 2nd overall at 14-5-1. I pitched 5 innings on Tuesday night against a really good team (the Nationals) and we ended up tied 3-3 after 9 innings! We now head to the playoffs!
