Cinco de Mayo & The Ballet Bar (week XXX)

This weekend was Cinco de Mayo, so dad played a lot of Latin music and we ate a lot of Mexican food to celebrate the Battle of La Puebla.  We never know for sure, but the story is that the Mexican army defeated Napolean's army at La Puebla about 150 years ago giving us all in America the excuse to hang out in our backyards, watch sports, and play Cornhole with our friends.  The Armstrongs and Jones families came over on Saturday afternoon and we all went to the Hodgson's on Sunday.

The big project of the weekend for dad and Chris was building the "Ballet Bar".  Dad has been trying to help Chris pick-out some decorations for his room.  Of course, I have a bunch USC, Angels, and Mike Trout pictures on my wall (easy choice), but Chris has been contemplating his room for a couple months now.  Finally, Dad and he sat down to come-up with some options.  After looking at dancer decals and posters, Chris settled on a single Ballet Bar affixed to his wall so that he could do his moves and stretches.  Of course, it took about twice as long for them to build it (but only two trips to the hardware store is not bad), but the end result was a nice looking--although very rudimentary Poplar wood and steel lag bolt--Ballet Bar.

Chris has been dancing-up a storm lately.  He has class at the Long Beach Ballet Company on Wardlow once a week on Saturdays but he dances in the backyard on the new grass or in the living room on the new wooden floor every moment he can get.  He is really into it and promoted to the next level of classes very quickly!  Chris also got his GATE test back this week and of course, he is super smart (considered highly intelligent), which explains a lot of his creativity and his sense of humor.  Of course, he still only weighs about 50 pounds and skinny as a Ballet Bar, but he is now 8 years-old, dancing up a storm, doing well in school, and charting his own course.

We only had baseball practice this week (no games) because we are getting ready for the playoffs to start on Tuesday.  As the 2nd Seed this year, we have a good chance to win it all but it is a tough road ahead.  Our indoor soccer team won again and I played Sweeper to lead the defense.  Otherwise, Happy Cinco de Mayo!
