Parent Teacher Conferences (week 564)

This week, we began Parent-Teacher Conferences at Patrick Henry.  Christopher is in the 2nd Grade and went first on Friday night, just moments before a big Friday night soccer game over at Heartwell Park under the lights.  We all hung-out on the playground while mom and dad met with Senora Dellenbach.  I will share a few updates about the week, but mostly want to talk about Christopher's report.

Mostly, Christopher is doing great.  He reads, speaks, and writes Spanish pretty well except for a few issues--gue's and z's--and he is really good at Math.  His teacher says that his penmanship can use some work and that he adds words to his reading sometimes, but mostly, he is just really funny, fidgety, and makes her laugh even when she is trying to be serious.  In fact, she can't look at him sometimes because he is such a card.

Christopher is also doing great in soccer.  He is usually one of the littlest guys on the field this year because he is only 7 and playing U10, but he is going to practice twice a week and giving his best.  He skips around the field a lot and jumps in-and-out of the action; and, his team--the Green Hornets--are in 1st place (undefeated) out of 22 teams!  At 8-0, this is definitely the best team that he has ever been on and he is loving it.  There is only one other team in the league that is still undefeated but we are hoping that the Hornets can hold on to win the big trophy (Christopher's dream come true).

Team United (my team) is still hanging-in-there at 1st place out of 14 teams, and only 2 games to go.  We are having a great time as the youngest team in the league with 7 of our 12 players only 10 years old (and mostly all at Patrick Henry).  We continue to focus on defense and lead the league for giving up the least number of goals for the second year in a row (only 5 goals surrendered in our first 8 games).  If we can hold out the next two weeks, we think we can finish another year undefeated.

Each Sunday, we continue our weekly tradition of "breakfast boys" by trying another restaurant each week.  Typically, we talk about family traditions, job prospects, and who makes the best pancakes in Long Beach.  Its quality time before we head off for church and Children's Choir at Bay Shore.
