For the last weekend of Summer, we took a last minute trip to Mexico. It was our first time outside the country and it was definitely a great learning experience for us. We were surprised at how close another country was, and how easy it was to leave! We just drove south to San Diego, and within 2 hours we were across the boarder and into Baja Mexico.
The trip was the idea of the Hodgsons who have a family house near Rosarito. We stayed two nights at the house on the cliffs just north of the town of Rosarito and went into town for dinner one of the nights. The other day we drove all the way down to Ensenada to see the port, the downtown, and even got to experience the red light district. We even got to see a mid-afternoon Mexican bar fight!
On the way back to the States, it took us 3.5 hours to get across the boarder! It was crazy. There were people walking around between the cars selling everything that you can imagine. Christopher had 100 pesos still in his pocket that he just had to burn on a guitar. We had churros and Mexican cokes while sitting in the boarder crossing. When we finally got across the boarder we were hungry again so we stopped at Hodad's for hamburgers in Mission Beach, jumped in the ocean, and stretched our legs before getting back to Long Beach. It's back to school next week!
