Memorial Day Weekend is one of my favorite times of the year because with Te first weekend of Summer also comes the first all star baseball tournament of the year in Fountain Valley. We have been doing this tournament for as long as I can remember. Although it means that if we do well, we don't get to attend any of the backyard barbecues with our friends; but, instead we get to hang it with about 1,000 people (and probably even more cars) at the Fountain Valley sports park (one of my favorite places). Each year, I interrogate my dad about why we can't build such a sports park in Long Beach. He explains to me and to every other parent on the team why Long Beach has developed in a different way--the benefits of studying public policy and Land Use I guess.
This year, I made the East Long Beach U10 "Red" All Star team. This is a big deal for me because our league is so competitive. This also means that we will get to compete for another year with many of my same friends, and hope that we can make it back to the Super Regionals in San Marcos.
This weekend, Chris and I got to spend a lot of time with Dad going to church, walking to the store, making breakfast, doing yard work, and talking about life. We are talking more and more about how we can negotiate and compromise with others--to find a way for both of us to win when Chris and I have a disagreement. We are also starring to talk a lot more about someday when we have to leave home and get a job! We have been watching other people who are good workers, leaders, and managers on teams and at jobs. There is a lot going on in the world!
