Treasure Island and Some Surgery (week 537)

This was a wild week which included multiple friends in the hospital for surgery.  One was an 11-hour planned surgery in which Doug had his esophagus removed. The other was unplanned, emergency surgery that involved Nate having his appendix removed.  One involved a dad over 50 and the other involved a kid at 10!  Both were very scary, but both were extremely successful and we were all very relieved.  Now, the healing process begins.

The week was our first back to school after our Spring Break, and seemed longer than normal.  We did the normal stuff--Chris has piano lessons on Monday and Art class on Wednesday.  I had a baseball game on Monday (win) and another on Thursday (loss), but I have also been taking a robotics class on Wednesdays.  Dad and mom have been working a lot, and everyone has been moving their kids from house to house dealing with surgeries and hospital visits.

On Saturday, it was the big Keisler annual Science Project Day.  Chris did his project this year on "why you need blood" while I focused on the very important scientific research about "which bat is best".  This involved lots of arts and crafts for Chris which made me queasy, and I invoked my team mates and little brother to hit baseballs using different types of bats--wooden, aluminum and composite.  For me, the composite won with a 1.6 average ranking (longest distance) over 36 swings.

Sunday was another church, children's choir, and social day.  We started out with breakfast at the Otto's house on the beach.  They literally open their back door to the sand and the water!  We then went to church, had rehearsal, and then did a pizza party in the park and the play "Treasure Island" at the Long Beach Playhouse.  It was super funny, particularly the guy who was obsessed with cheese!
