Memorial Day (week 493)

The Summer is here!  With the end of May came the beginning of baseball tournaments, barbecues, and pool parties at the Hubers.  We had a great Memorial Day tournament down in Fountain Valley and won our first three games handily.  It was the first round of knockout play that we came out flat and got knocked out!  It did mean that we got to go home early and spend the afternoons with our friends.  We went to the Hubers--of course--for the first big swim party of the year.

Christopher has met a number of new buddies this year through Kindergarten and Adventure Guides.  It has been great for him to broaden his circles and play different games with different kids.  For instance, he likes to play law enforcement with Henry (who's dad is a police officer), and stuffed animals with George (who has a squirrel named Richard).  They have much different adventures together.  But Christopher's two best buddies since birth--Mady and Emma--are much more like sisters and family than his friends from school.  This creates both incredible benefits given their level of comfort and familiarity with one another, and some costs.  As they are getting older they are becoming more and more like people, which means that the girls are becoming girls (socially, emotionally, etc.), and it become confusing for the boys.  It will be a really interesting Summer between Kindergarten and 1st Grade to watch Christopher and his best friends grow up a little more.  They have been so close and shared so many interests since they were babies, but they are now starting to explore the world and see that there are other things out there to do.  The wonder years are coming!
