Science Projects! (week 485)

This past week was all about science!  Well, actually it was about "how do solar panels work?" and "how do you graft a plant?", but it was that time of year again when Chris and I explore the world of science to answer mankind's most pressing problems.  This year was an entire family affair because of the amount of research, interview, and report writing required of a K-5 science project for LBUSD.

Christoper's project was about plant grafting and involved watching a number of videos, reading a report, and interviewing Grandpa John, a certified arborist and expert in the field of trees.  Chris drew a bunch of great diagrams of the different ways that you can graft trees and plants together and wrote a full report with table of contents, bibliography, and cover page.  My project about how solar panels work involved videos, articles, an investigation of our own solar panel system, and an interview of Uncle David, an expert in science generally and solar panel installation specifically.  What we found out was that writing reports was hard work but that we were very proud of the results; and, that our family members are actually really smart!

We have also bee making lots of progress on the church play "Are we There Yet" with the plagues really coming together.  There is a lot of action going on in the play, so the weekly rehearsals have become controlled chaos.  Chris and I are both having a lot of fun and learning a lot about reading music, how a script works, and being part of an artistic group.  It has been a lot of fun and we both see a future in science and the arts.  We have even pulled out the keyboard in our playroom.  We mainly play crazy drum riffs on the keyboard, but at least we are able to try some stuff out that we hear.
