Every April, the international racing scene comes to Long Beach and with it thousands of race fans. This year, for the first time in my 9 years and Christopher's 6 years of life, we all went downtown to the Electric "e" Grand Prix race. It is amazing to see the downtown of Long Beach transform from a conference, tourist and entertainment destination to a race track in just a few weeks. The Armstrongs came with us and we met up with the Modicas and their grandparents from Germany. It was crazy to see the big race cars that were running (almost silently) on electricity; and, we even got to see one crash where a car climbed up on the back of another car on the final turn.
We also got to see dad's new office for the first time. He moved from the Police Department last year, but for some reason we never went to City Hall to see his new spot. The office has a big window on the 13th floor of City Hall that looks out over the old courthouse, which is being torn down right now. We got to watch the giant machine cut and bite the steel beams apart on the courthouse and big chunks of concrete come crashing down. It is like a giant metal insect that is eating the building. They are recycling the entire courthouse to make way for the new City Hall, which will be finished in 2019. Crazy!
Otherwise, school and baseball are going well for us. The Orioles are up and down with a tough week of baseball ahead of us. I have also been playing Jr. Golf on Friday nights (I finally passed the test and made the course), and Chris is now playing tennis and soccer on Saturday mornings. He is actually getting a lot better because he is practicing with dad and I in the backyard.
