Snow! (week 473)

For the past three winters the mountains have been dry as a bone.  In fact, the entire state has suffered a severe drought.  That is why so many people are excited this year about the possibilities (and dangers) that El Nino is bringing with it.  On this Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, we headed to the church cabin at Sky Forest and hit the snow jackpot. Literally, we ran into a pile of snow in the cabin parking lot and got stuck.  There was at least 10-12 inches of white, fluffy, cold snow piled around the cabin for us to build forts, snowballs, and sledding runs.

Mostly, we went sledding each morning and hung out in the cabin playing pool, making puzzles, and building stuff outside with our friends the Hodgsons, the Armstrongs, and the Jones families.  We had a lot of big breakfasts and dinners together, and got up early each morning to play in the basement where we made a for out of the blankets and bunkbeds.  On Sunday, we all went into the Lake Arrowhead Village to feed the ducks, eat candy, and go to the toy store where we pick something out every year.  Surprised? Christopher picked out Shopkins and I got a little football.

On Monday, we all listened to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speeches and sadly said goodbye to the cabin for another year.  We had such a good time this year that we were truly sad to go home.  Most of the snow had already melted by the time that we left.  It was a great trip to the snow and we are hoping to have a few more good ones before it melts for good!

One other fun trip this week was to the State of the City address at the Performing Arts Center in Long Beach. This was the second time that I got to go but the first one for Chris.  It was an amazing night with glowing ping pong tables, cookies, lots of people and of course--Show Tunes!
