Visitors from New York! (week 436)

As one group of grandparents departed for the Central Coast last week, another set of grandparents arrived from New York to spend the week with us in Long Beach. Grandma Dubby and Grandpa Andy haven't been out for a while so we were pretty excited to see them.  They arrived with New York bagels and crumb cake.  We went to the beach, to Knott's, and visited the USS Iowa during their week with us.  We had a great time.

Saturday was the biggest day in American sports history with the running of the Kentucky Derby, Game 7 of the Clippers vs. Spurs, the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight, NHL playoffs, NFL draft, and of course, the Red Sox vs. Cardinals battle for 1st place in ELB Pinto!  With only two games remaining in the baseball season, the Red Sox have been on an 8-game win streak and moved into a virtual tie for first place with the Cardinals.  

On Saturday, we finally faced off to determine who would get the No. 1 seed and first round bye in the playoffs.  I was nervous all week because the first time we played the Cardinals, they beat us pretty bad.  This time, the outcome was much different.  I started the game and struck out 6 of 7 batters.  I also got an RBI double in the first inning and we went on to build a 10-0 lead.  In the end, it was 10-4 but put us in a very strong position to capture the No.1 seed.  Even more important, we had been holding off snacks and treats until after the game and got to eat as much garbage as we wanted after the game.  The dads wanted to watch the Pacquiao/Mayweather fight, so we went to the Hubers to swim and party.

On Sunday, we all went to Church and attended our first rehearsal for the upcoming Annual Fundraiser Show where Chris and I will be singing "Don't ever want to grow up" from the movie Hook.  We will be dressing up as Lost Boys from the story of Peter Pan and singing the song in front of the Bayshore Congregation on Sunday, May 17, 2015.  After rehearsal, we all went to San Pedro to have lunch at Acapulco and see the USS Iowa.  The retired battleship has been in San Pedro since 2012 and was rehabilitated so that people can see how it worked.  It was Grandpa Andy's idea to go see the boat and we had an awesome time.  The boat has 9 huge 16-inch guns on turrets that we got to touch and watch fire in videos; but, the most exciting part of the boat was going up and down the stairs and ladders, and running through all the different rooms and doorways.  There was something different inside every room--kitchens, bunks, bathrooms, offices, captains chairs, control rooms--and we had an awesome time exploring.
