Seasons Change (week 412)

With Summer ending, daylight savings time beginning, and the holiday season coming it really feels like the seasons have changed in Long Beach.  It is cooler, cloudier, and the leaves are blowing around the neighborhood.  This weekend also marked the end of soccer season for the Green Soliders and the Green Lizards, marked the beginning of basketball for the 'Green' Ducks, and the Bayshore Children's Choir received our costumes for the "Living Creche" Christmas Pageant at church.

It was a good week in Long Beach. Although Christopher fought and cried about going to school every day this week, he also completed his In-N-Out reading card.  He complains about school but he has become an excellent reader and loves to sound out words.  We also opened Loyd's Bookstore (yes, Loyd has one L) in our playroom.  Loyds is pretty much open 24 hours a day and consists of our own book collection infused with library books which are also for sale to the public.  We used the ironing board as our main shelf of featured books, and pulled the toy shelf away from the wall so that it can serve as the counter and hold the cashier.  Loyds has been pretty successful in its first week, although Daddy keeps trying to put aspects of it away.  Mommy says it has about another week until Uncle Mark and Aunt Leah arrive with baby Nina for a visit.  

We also finished soccer season this year.  The Lizards ended up 6-3-3 with a final-game loss to the Ninjas 4-1.  The Lizards were so fired-up that maybe they were over-fired and couldn't finish the goals.  In fact, they were so fired-up that they were tackling each other, swinging and missing the ball, and blocking each other's kicks.  The Green Soldiers also finished the season 8-2-2 with a 4-1 win.  I had 2 goals and 2 assists in the game but was still getting over my cold.  I had a fever earlier in the week and had to stay home from school.  On Sunday morning we started basketball at Los Alamitos High!

But the big news of the week was singing in Church "Never Forget to be Thankful" and getting our costumes for the Christmas play.  Everyone was pretty pumped up about it.  Chris and Jack are the donkeys while Max and I are the Shepherds.  We have never had costumes or a play like this so it is getting pretty exciting.
