Easter Weekend (week 383)

Easter Sunday came this week and it was one of the best ones yet.  For the first time, I started to make connections between what Jesus did on Easter and my own life.  Chris and I were still mostly interested in what the Easter Bunny brought us in the form of candy, eggs, and toys; but, this was the first year that the ideas that Easter--with its baby chicks, painted egg hunts, and candy--was really about giving to others, celebration, sacrifice, and rebirth.

We had an awesome weekend.  On Saturday, our U7 Travel Ball team was in Garden Grove for a tournament.  We won our first game but got crushed in our next two games by the Beast from Fontana.  I got hit by pitch twice in the 2nd game so hard that it knocked me out for the 3rd game of the day.  Mommy and daddy think that the injury was more psychological than physical, but it was the first time that I got scratched from the line up for injury and I survived.

On Saturday, Daddy and Chris had birthday party duty.  While Mommy and I were at the baseball field for 11 hours, they were driving to the South Bay for Amara Alegria's 2nd birthday party at the Sea Lab.  They got to touch all kinds of different sea creatures, eat tacos, and load up on sugar.  After (with a nap in the car), they went to the Modica twins 5th birthday party at Wardlow Park.  Because it was Easter weekend, the park was packed with people--even a Star Wars Party that had Obi Won and Darth Vadar fighting it out for good and evil.  On Saturday night, we painted our eggs and watched the Charlie Brown Easter Beagle, and got into bed so that the Easter Bunny could make his deliveries.

Of course, I was up at 5:40 am on Easter morning. The Easter Bunny had come to our house (via Long Island), and there were paw prints and marshmellow droppings all over the neighborhood.  Christopher actually got up in the night to ask for a bandaide and caught all the parents outside doing something with sponges and paints, but it didn't matter to us.  We had an awesome breakfast with Easter eggs, cinnamon rolls, and the opening of lots of presents.

Daddy wouldn't let me open anything until Chris and mommy were awake, so we read the entire Easter story beginning with the Last Supper in my Children's Bible that I got from my Godparents at baptism.  Daddy was impressed because I can read in both Spanish and English now, and understood a lot about the story.

Church was packed on Easter Sunday but we got there early and had front row seats in the balcony.  In the afternoon we headed to Uncle Ron and Aunt Karen's for the annual Easter lunch and egg hunt.  I didn't find the Golden Egg this year (again), but we got a massive haul of candy to add to our already massive supply. We got to spend time with Grandma Paula and Grandpa Mike, as well as a bunch of our distant cousins and friends.  It was an awesome Easter Weekend that I will never forget.
