Thanksgiving for Our Health (week 363)

This Thanksgiving, we are just grateful that we survived. From strep throat to the stomach flu, it was not an easy run for the Keisler Family, but it makes you truly grateful for feeling healthy again!

Grandma Paula and Grandpa Mike came to visit us on their way through town.  They were on their way to Minnesota for the holiday to see our family there.  We celebrated Grandpa Mike and Christopher's birthday (again) with cupcakes.  When Christopher blew out the candles, I think he also blew his germs all over the frosting and maybe spread a little more than birthday or Thanksgiving cheer.  Grandma and Grandpa had to fly out early the next morning to beat the Thanksgiving travel traffic so I didn't get to see them leave.

To celebrate Thanksgiving in Long Beach this year, we started everything off by serving food at the Rescue Mission.  It was the first time that we did something like that as a family, but it was really fun.  Chris and I were a little nervous at first because there were people lined-up down the street waiting for Thanksgiving Dinner.  There were kids, families, old people and even people in wheelchairs that needed food.  I didn't know that so many people don't have houses or food on their tables, right here in Long Beach.  Inside, the tables were all set with decorated place mats, hand written cards, silverwear, and all the fixings.  There were also a lot of people from Daddy's work, and even the Police Chief serving food!  I took care of the drinks while Mommy, Daddy and Chris helped to serve and clear plates. After, we went to dinner together at Nino's and I was very grateful for my family.
On Thursday, we headed North to have Thanksgiving at Grandpa John's.  There were 20 people there, including our cousins Elie and Sophie.  We took family pictures, played fooseball, and ate lots of rolls.  Afterwards, we got giant turkey cookies with frosting, jellybeans, and M&Ms.  Christopher wouldn't eat his food initially because he has been really sick over the past two weeks, so it was a big fight and lots of crying before he finally got to have his cookie.

Daddy was already feeling really sick, but after Thanksgiving Mommy got sick too.  Chris had been sick for two weeks with different ailments and I was sick last month.  All of our friends in Long Beach had been passing something around for a while, but we were lucky...for a while.  In the end, we had to come back to Long Beach early so that everyone could get better again.  It was a trip cut short, but it was fun to get to see all of our family, play with the dogs, and think about what we are thankful for in 2013: our health!
