My dad says that the Keislers have been going to Yosemite every year at the beginning of Summer for more than 30 years. This year, we stayed for three nights at Housekeeping in Yosemite Valley with Nathan's family because they have been going there almost as long. It was a super fun time. There were 8 or 9 families in total and we stayed right beside the Merced River. We did lots of different stuff because we usually stay in Summerdale and drive into the Valley for the day. Instead, we go to take some new hikes to Yosemite and Vernal Falls, visit Curry Village, Yosemite Village, the Indian Village, and Happy Isles; and we saw the Ranger Ned Show for the first time. My absolute favorite though was the fact that we got to ride the shuttles. The weather was perfect this year. There was a heat wave the week before and the week following but for us, the weather was 80 degrees almost every day and pretty warm at night. Since there was no rain or snow anywhere in California, the waterfalls were very small. In fact, when the wind blew in the afternoons Yosemite Falls almost disappeared in a little mist blowing straight off the mountain.

Each afternoon we spent time by the Merced River where families in rubber boats floated by. The beach was rocky but there were sandy parts and a giant tree on its side that we could climb. Its roots were like a giant fort that four of us at a time could hide away from the adults and play. One of the best parts of Housekeeping is that they also have showers so after long days we were able to take hot showers. One of the worst parts about Housekeeping was the bears and the raccoons. We forgot to throw out the trash one night and were raided by a raccoon bandit. It was so loud that we thought there was a bear in the camp. Daddy had to go outside with his flashlight and make a lot of noise. The raccoon took a bag of Cheezits and headed for the trees.

We finished the weekend off in Summerdale, per tradition, and met Grandpa John and Grammy for the last two nights of the trip. The Armstrongs also joined us. Emma spent most of the time tripping on the tree roots and rocks, and we spent most of our time in the creek moving the rocks around and fishing. Jackson and I caught four fish together. Grandpa John cleaned them up and we cooked them for dinner. It was a great time...the only sad part was that we had to go home and have to wait another 360 days before we will be there again.
