Happy 11th Birthday (week 580)

On Thursday, we celebrated my 11th birthday as a family.  Mom made me homemade pizza and a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting.  Although I really wanted to order Dominoes (just like my dad did when he was 11), the pizza mom made was much better and we ate a lot of cake.

Instead of a big party this year, I opted for a small gathering of my closest buddies and instead asked for a bigger present: a new acrylic, unbreakable, Lifetime basketball backboard.  I spent hours looking at pictures and descriptions online before choosing the hoop, which cost $150.  My Grandma Dubby and Aunt Lindsey both sent me money to help pay for half the hoop and my parents chipped-in the other half of the cost.  It came in the mail the day before my birthday but was unfortunately much more complicated than Dad and I imagined to put together and attach to my old Huffy basketball pole and riser.  We had to order a special universal bracket to hold-up the backboard and rim, and provide the right attachment to the pole.  It took us until Sunday to get the thing together.

In other big news, I learned Tuesday that Santa doesn't exist.  I had begun to suspect something didn't add-up, and confirmed it with Mom on Tuesday night while Dad was at City Council.  I told Mom that there was no magic left in the world but she told me that it was up to me now, to create the magic for the little kids.  What bothered me most was that without Santa, poor families were unable to buy presents for their kids on Christmas.  Mom explained that it was up to me to become Santa for those kids now.  I cried myself to sleep.

It was also Opening Day for baseball at ELB this Saturday morning and we had our first da in Bronco on Saturday night.  It was freezing cold so Chris stayed with Maddy at their house.  I faced 7 batters, struck out 4, and gave-up no hits or walks.  We won 8-0.  The Winter Olympics are still going (men's curling won a miracle gold medal), and we are doing a big backyard irrigation, grass, and porch installation.
