This weekend was "Cousin Camp: Christmas Version" at Grandma Paula and Grandpa Mike's house in Arroyo Grande. Actually, it all began with a Friday afternoon run out of Los Angeles up Pacific Coast Highway to meet-up with our cousins--Sophie and Eli--and to celebrate Grandpa Mike's 75th Birthday at a restaurant in Santa Barbara. It was a fun surprise party that Grandma had concocted that also involved the hand-off of Christopher and I. Aunt Andrea, Uncle Josh, all the cousins and the grandparents were all there but it was also a strange night because of the Thomas Fire; much of Ventura and Santa Barbara had been evacuated because of the historic fires that threatened homes and filled the coast with smoke. Everything smelled and the smoke hung in the air like fog making the air hard to breath. We all got masks to wear so that we didn't cough on the smoke. There have been a tremendous number of fires in California lately.
The weekend was great. Mom and dad hosted the annual Christmas Party at our new house with 50 of our closest friends joining them just hours after the last of the contractors finished their work. After more than 4 months, we finally were able to get back into our house the previous Tuesday night. We are so grateful to our good friends the Huber Family that had hosted us for a month with 9 people in their house! Now, we miss seeing them every night and every morning and we think that Sparky is particularly sad to see us gone!
It is shaping-up to be an awesome Christmas with so much to be thankful for.
