This was definitely a week, a road trip, and a New Year to remember at the Keisler house. To celebrate the end of 2016, the Keisler family piled into the Tacoma, loaded a giant suitcase in the truck bed, and hit the road to explore the beautiful coast of California for a three-day road trip. In a sense, it was sort of an experiment to see if we were all ready to start really road-tripping together with a trip to San Francisco to see the Golden Gate Bridge.
Not only did we see missions, the Stanford campus, multiple stadiums, Silicon Valley, the Bridge, Lombard Street, China Town, Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz, Pier 39, the Ferry Building, the FiDi, Castro, Noe Valley, Golden Gate Park, Union Square, a Trolley Ride, and North Beach, but we walked miles through the City together and had a great time eating ice cream, climbing hills, and taking pictures together.
We also got to see the incredible coast line of California and "America's Dream Highway (PCH)" which looks a lot different in Long Beach than it does along the rural coast between Pacifica, Half-Moon Bay, and Santa Cruz. Both Chris and I love cities, love traveling, and love California more and more every day. Ultimately, we were only on the road for about 64 hours, but we saw so much and got to bond as a family.
Our goal was to get back to Long Beach for the New Year to spend time with our friends, watch the College Football Playoff Series (Washington, Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State), as well as to take down the Christmas decorations and watch USC play Penn State in the Rose Bowl. The Hodgsons (Seattle people) came over for New Years Eve to watch the Huskies get crushed by Alabama but it was a New Year, and a Rose Bowl game to remember for the ages!
After a back-and-forth for 3 hours, USC kicked a field goal with time expiring to win 52-49 in the greatest game I have ever seen--the highest scoring Rose Bowl in history--and a turning point for the entire Trojan football family. It was a pretty way to start 2017 with new jobs, new hope for USC, a healthy family, and lots of great memories together.
