BizPort, GeoApps and the i-team (week 511)

A running joke in our family lately has been about "BizPort" and the fact that we see it everywhere we go.  It has been in the newspaper, in dad's truck, on the news, one the web, the screen saver on dad's phone, and Chris and I have had to attend more than one community event about the launch of the City's new online business portal called BizPort.

Actually, it is just one of the many things going on our live lately--including coaching soccer, PTA, Patrick Henry Foundation, children's choir, Skatedogs--and many other activities on a daily basis that we have to shuttle to.  This past week was a big one for dad because he had been losing sleep for the last month over planning for the big Civic Innovation Summit, the launch of BizPort, and all the stuff that is bouncing around in his head that Chris and I hear about on a daily basis.

Dad has been making Chris and I attend more and more work-volunteer-related events with him lately.  He says it is good for us to see our mom and dad at work so that we can decided what we want to do someday.  On Saturday morning, Chris and I joined dad with a truck full of snacks and coffee to attend the kickoff of the City's first GeoApp Challenge with the college kids at CSULB.  It was a pain to have to go with him, particularly because we also had a full day of soccer, refereeing, and other fine events to catch-up with afterwards, but we got a bottle each of Gatorade out of the event and got to walk around the campus to find the Geography school.  Dad gave some opening remarks about the great City of Long Beach, the great University, and how they can become the center of the world for something.  We then ran out the door, jumped in the truck, and rushed to the soccer field for Chris's game with the Purple Ninjas.  After another four games refereeing, team United won an extremely close game against the No.1 team in the league--the Blue Jets--and claimed the top spot as the only undefeated team remaining in the league.  We slept hard that night and were ready to go for church and the Bayshore Children's Choir Sunday morning!
