After our tour of the City, we boarded the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) and made our way out to the land of water and carbohydrates. We headed to Grandma Dubby and Grandpa Andy's house for the week to see our cousins, eat coffee cake and bagels and pizza, and swim, swim, swim.
It was our longest visit in years and Dad's longest vacation since he started working for the City eleven years ago. For the most part, we relaxed at the house and spent our days swimming in the elevated backyard pool. Our cousins Nathan and Steven came to visit every day, and Cousin Nina came out from the City to stay with us as well. We did countless cannonballs, had water cannon fights, and ate lots of cookies. Grandma took us to Friendly's to get us a Watermelon Roll, Aunt Lindsay took us all bowling (and Cousin Steven won), and Grandpa took us out on the boat for an entire day at Fire Island and Davis Park. It was a super fun week with cousins and our family.
On Friday, we headed for the North Fork past Riverhead to visit the Milos in Cutchog. They bought a beach house about a block from the beach two years ago and invite us to stay with them. Chris and I had an awesome time playing with Katie and Olivia. The first night we went to the McCall winery for awesome hamburgers. The winery was packed with kids playing games and exploring the farm. We all went to Magic Fountain afterwards and had amazing ice cream with more crazy flavors than I had ever seen--Cookie Monster, Baklava, and even Avocado(yuck)! The next day, we were supposed to go out on the boat but it broke down so Dad and I went out to get bagels at Goldberg's (the best ever) and we spent the day at the Cutchog Beach swimming, kayaking, and floating all day long. We got back to Farmingville and Grandma Dubby's in time to do some additional swimming in the pool and spend time with a big mess of cousins.
The other fun thing that we learned to do this week is to edit videos from the GoPro on the iPad and iPhone App called Quick. Dad forced me to spend about an hour actually learning to download my videos from the GoPro and setting them to music. Chris and I both can now add subtitles, change the color pallet or setting, and add lots of features to make the videos look old fashion, modern, or just plain crazy. It has opened an entirely new world for us and Dad says that if we got good enough we might even be able to get paid doing it as a job someday! Who knew? What makes Dad happy is that I work on my videos when I wake up instead of just playing somebody else's video games online.
