Another Season Ends (week 499)

Well, the 499th week of my blog brings some sad news.  In an absolutely brutal way, the ELB U9 baseball team saw our season slip away in the final inning to Orange at the Super Regional in Walnut, CA.  After a pretty good run going 19-7, winning our own tournament, nearly beating the 2-time World Series Champion (Irvine) in a tournament championship, and splitting our four games at the Super Regional 2-2, we packed up the bats and headed home at about the same place we finished last year.

It was a game that I will always remember as one that got away.  We led the entire game and had a one-run lead with Orange down to their very last strike.  It was in that scenario that we made two errors on the play to allow two runs to score and to end our season.  It was a bitter pill to swallow given that we had gave up a 4-2 lead to Whittier in our first game. We led late in both games that we lost, and the eventual runner-up that went to the World Series was a travel team (Simi Valley Youth Baseball) that we beat in a tournament Semi-final just weeks before.

In any event, we worked hard, played hard, and just didn't have the pitching or the hitting to close out some close games.  Of course, the Super Regional Champion from our Zone (Emerald) won the World Series for the 3rd straight year, and went on to win the International World Series beating Texas, New York, Hawaii, and Mexico in the finals 9-1. The toughest games they played in their undefeated run were against our Super Region, so we know that we are some of the best Pony Teams in the nation.
