Last week was Washington's Birthday and a holiday from school and work. Taking advantage of the free Monday, we all piled into the car on Friday morning and drove up to Oakhurst to meet up with Grandma Paula & Grandpa Mike, Aunt Andrea & Uncle Josh, and cousins Eli & Sophie.
We had hoped to get a lot of snow time because of the recent storms in the mountains, but there was nothing around the cabin so we headed to Yosemite and Badger Pass where it was high enough for the snow to pile up...so did everybody else! In fact, there were so many people thinking the same thing as us that they closed the road--literally as we pulled into the parking lot turnoff for the road to Badger Pass--so we headed for Yosemite Valley. We had a great time hiking to Vernal Falls Bridge, taking pictures, and playing in the snow on the Valley Floor near Curry Village. In the evening, we celebrated Mom's 40th birthday with a surprise party. She was actually surprised and we had a great time at the cabin the rest of the Valentines Day and Presidents Day weekend.
I was a little bummed to miss the big playoff games for my basketball team on Sunday, but they ended-up pulling out a double overtime victory over the Lakers in the quarterfinal and set us up for a run-in with the undefeated Rockets next week.
We are also moving right along with "Are We There Yet", the play about Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt. After auditioning for the parts of Pharoh and brother Aaron (which I didn't practice for), I settled in with the part of a Speaker. Chris got what he wanted as a Pharoh's Guard, but I am learning that it gets harder and harder to get the awards, the parts, and the grades that you want in life. As we are getting older, the kids that choose to stay involved in this or that are the ones that practice and prepare. I am not able to just show-up and get what I want anymore; I have to work hard at the things that I want. Just like the fence, if you pour bad footings the rain will get in and the post will fall over!
