Dad Gone Again: Mom Going Nuts! (week 458)

Dad being gone for his new job is becoming a regular theme these days.  This week, he was gone almost the entire week in Oakland for the Code for America Summit.  Chris and I totally wanted to go to Oakland because we know that there are three professional sports teams (A's, Warriors, and Raiders)!  Although we tried, we had to stay home for school. With dad gone so much, Mom teaching at Fullerton, and us having soccer and baseball practice (Chris), Mom is about to lose it.

In the end, we got by with a little help from our friends--spending some dinners with the Hubers or the Armstrongs.  Chris is sort of luke-warm on his baseball team: Shetland Black Fall Ball.  He originally had the choice between playing soccer or baseball and he chose baseball!  I have been working with him in the backyard to hit the ball into the Bow Net, and dad has been working with him on game days, but he is rarely super into it.

What is really making Chris excited these days is Chess!  He started his Chess Class in the mornings--actually we both did--but Chris is the only Kinder in the class and he is kicking butt at it.  For some reason, Chris has always been the member of the family that is most into board games.  He really likes Sequence, Monopoly, and any card game you will play with him (particularly War).  But Chess is a whole new level of complexity and he is really into it.  We both have workbooks that we can use in the mornings to practice scenarios. Of course, I would rather watch surfing videos and big waves on YouTube, but Chris actually wakes-up, grabs his pencil, and practices his Chess moves.  These days, you may even find him playing chess against himself!
