Wedding Anniversaries and Corn (week 444)

After weeks of hard work at the Community Garden planting, watering, and weeding, Christopher harvested his first crop of corn from seed.  He had been watching and waiting the arrival of his crop for many weeks and this weekend harvest time came to Long Beach.  The corn was beautiful, golden, and sweet.  Christopher was so happy about the outcome that he discarded his original plan to sell us his corn for $1 each, and shared it with everyone for dinner on the patio.  

Christopher is a really good gardener.  Not only does he have the interest in the process of growing plants, but he also has the patience and enjoys watching the plants grow from seed to harvest.  He doesn't seem to mind the work when he is at the garden and particularly loves spending alone time with Mom moving mulch, digging, watering and weeding.  He definitely has more patience than I do.  I like things that run, jump, and dive on the ground.  Gardening is a little slow for me.

It was also Mommy and Daddy's 9th wedding anniversary this week. They didn't get to celebrate Thursday night because there were too many conflicts on the calendar, but they did get to have a nice lunch in Manhattan Beach between baseball games.  We were playing in the District 1 championship for All Stars, so Abrahams watched us at the Round Table Pizza so that my parents could celebrate.  They had a great time getting away from the team--pretending they were on vacation for a few hours--and came back to watch us with the District Championship for East Long Beach.  It is the first District Championship banner that I have been able to bring back to Heartwell to display on the fence, so we were pretty excited (and exhausted). 

We also had Grandma Paula with us for the weekend. She was attending a memorial service for her friend in San Diego, but she was able to stay with us at night, have dinner, and go to church with us on Sunday.  It was a great summer week!
