Last Day of School--Christopher's Best Weekend Ever! (week 443)

The big news this week, of course, is that school is out for Summer!  We counted down the days for months, weeks, and then days...and now that it is here, it is kind of sad.  I loved 2nd Grade and I am going to miss my teacher Sra. Dellenbach.  Chris is also a little sad (although he won't admit it), to say goodbye to TK and Ms. Mendez. We both had parties on Wednesday to celebrate our year but it was a little more bittersweet than I thought it would be.  The good news is that we have Summer vacation ahead and that when we get back to school, both Chris and I will both be at Patrick Henry!  It will be a little sad that we will no longer get nightly voicemail from Ms. Sanchez--Your Principal...Gooooo Bobcats. However, this will be the first time since St. Lukes, over three years ago, that we can both cheer for the same team: Go Patriots!

After school got out, we had lots of important things to do, but none more important than pack our "airport bags" for Grandma Paula's house, and to head north for some days on the farm.  We didn't arrive until very late Wednesday night after a long day of parties, the St. Hedwig Championship, and some In-n-Out along the way, however, when we arrived there were (4) brand new baby chicks waiting for us.  If there is something more cute than brand new baby chicks, I don't know what it is.  Christopher in particular was beside himself with the prospect of holding, and watching, and kissing the baby chicks.  On Thursday, we went back to the store to get (3) more baby chicks that were only 1 day old!

At Grandma Paula's we got to play with the dogs--Buddy and Sam--see whales at Avila Bay, conduct a church service, make pancakes, play with the baby chicks, and go hiking with on an adventure with coyotes, cows, and all kinds of scat.  But the real fun started for Chris when Mom, Dad and I had to leave for my baseball tournament in Mira Loma (Jarupa Valley) at Big League Dreams.  Christopher didn't even blink an eye when we all said goodbye Friday morning.  He was very excited to stay at Grandma Paula's by himself.  We thought that he might cry or be sad that we were  leaving, but he proved us all wrong.  He barely had time to give Mom a hug and kiss before running off to his next activity.

On Friday alone, Chris went to Bubblegum Alley in San Luis Obispo, roasted marshmellows, and wrote his epic novel "Three Baby Chicks".  He called us a few times while we were at the 100 degree baseball fields in the Southern California desert, but otherwise, he was having the time of his life and had little time for us.  On Saturday, Cousin Sophie and Cousin Eli returned from their camping trip.  We didn't get a whole lot of details but while we were roasting it out on the baseball field (and I had the worst pitching game of my life getting yanked in the first inning), it sounded like lots of parties and fun happening on the Central Coast.

It seems like Summer got off to the right start.  It also seems that Christopher may want to spend some more time alone with his grandparents now that he has graduated from TK and is ready to become a more independent kindergartner!
