It seems that when a young man enters the second half of 2nd Grade, he begins to look around him for the first time and notice the things that are different about his appearance and the appearance of others--clothes, shoes, and hairstyle. Up until now, the focus has mostly been about who gets what--the bigger piece of pizza, the first turn, more time on the iPad--but at some point around the age of 8, the boys of Patrick Henry start to notice things about others that they think are cool and different; and, they begin to try new styles.

The hot topic in the Keisler household recently has been about the mop tops that both Christopher and I are cultivating. After years of our father shearing our hair with the No.6, we have become much more vocal in the decisions that effect our hair. Beyond vocal, we have physically fought him off and his oppressive quest for efficient, low-maintenance, buzz cuts. For the time being, a detente has been established with the compromise that dad gets to keep our ears and neck clean, but allow for our mop tops to grow so long as we keep it clean and combed. It is a daily topic of discussion and definitely a point of conflict between the generations--nothing new--but the tip of the ice berg that is the development of our own personalities (separate from our parents).

This week was another great week of activities and events as well. Christopher's big art show at Avery Boo Arts in Bixby Knolls went off without a hitch. He displayed two works of art including "Bugs on a Stick" that were chosen by the art teacher for public debut during the Bixby Knolls First Friday event. After, the Hubers and Armstrong joined us to walk Atlantic and to have dinner at Ninos. After eating multiple chocolate eclairs at the art show, the little kids were up the wall. Friday night, I also completed my first full golf class and can now move on with Junior Golf.
We also had baseball on Saturday against the undefeated Marlins. I went 2-2 with a triple, double, 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and one scoreless inning pitched. It was a little rough because I walked the bases loaded but got out of the jam and we ended up winning 9-5 to hand them their first loss of the year. I am now leading the league with 3 wins!
On Sunday, we finally had the big birthday party at Golf-N-Stuff on Firestone. We invited about 10 kids (boys and 2 girls) from my Patrick Henry class, and had unlimited rides, golf, and pizza. It was a dream come true and boy did we act crazy! It was a bummer for the little siblings because they weren't tall enough to ride any of the rides. Chris was pretty good about it but eventually got to go home to the Armstrongs early to play on the bouncehouse as a concession. The week was definitely right up my alley!
