What a week! It seems like we did just about everything a family could do in just the last few days covering magic shows at Patrick Henry to marching in the Long Beach Pride Parade. It was a busy, fun-filled week that also included Christopher's first bee-sting, my first playoff win as a pitcher, and outside movies in the Armstrong's backyard.
The most unique thing that we did this week was to march in the Long Beach Pride Parade with the Police Department. I am really interested in Police--particularly the Chief--so getting to ride in a Deputy Chief Police car and see all the radios, guns, and equipment was pretty cool. When we got to the parade site, there were people dressed up in all kinds of crazy costumes. The point of the Pride Parade is to show how proud we are of our City; and the fact that you can be different. As long as you don't hurt anyone else, the Pride Parade celebrates everyone for who they are. We walked with the Chief of Police while Christopher rode in the back of a utility vehicle. He had a mean look on his face (he has been sick with his 4th case of Strep Throat this year and stayed up too late the night before), but the Parade route was pretty quick.
In the afternoon, we experience another first with Jimmy H, the Magician at Patrick Henry Elementary School. Mommy is part of a group that raises money for projects at the School. They put on a special magic show for everyone, and sold tickets and popcorn to the guests. There were card tricks, scarf tricks, disappearing egg tricks, and our favorite coin in the bucket trick. I am not sure what Chris expected to see but halfway into it he asked "when does the show start"?
Another first this week was Christopher's first bee sting. Daddy tells us every day to get our shoes on when we are running around outside. This time, daddy and Chris were unloading the decomposed granite (DG) from the back of the truck when Chris stepped on a bee. I am not sure how the bee got into the truck bed, but Chris was mad as a hornet when it stung him. The stinger was in between his big toe and boy did he go crazy. Luckily, he isn't allergic because the pain died down pretty quickly.
In baseball news, the Red Sox continued their march to the championship: http://elbpony.org/Pinto.cfm with our 13th win of the season and my first as a starting pitcher in the playoffs. I got some great defense from my team which involved a pickle and a put-out as 2nd base and resulted in two no-hit, shutout innings. I now have 47 strikeouts on the season, and we have a match-up with the Phillies on Thursday. I also started practicing with the U7 Select All Star Team. There is a lot of baseball going on right now with the playoffs winding down and the All Star Season winding up.
