Beating the Heat (week 352)

It was a sunny, hot weekend in Southern California and we spent a lot of time outside. From soccer fields to baseball fields.  From pop-up tents to water slides.  There was lots of barbecue, lots of ice cream, lots of laughing, and lots of crying.  The weekends are almost busier than the weekdays. Christopher is just about 2 months shy of 4 years old, but he is definitely stretching the limits of the terrible threes. For the most part, everything ends in crying.  From the moment that he wakes-up in the morning, he finds something to complain and cry about.  On the other hand, when we are having fun complains about having it end. This morning, he woke-up and asked for granola and milk.  When Daddy got it for him he complained that it wasn't enough.  Instead of eating what he did have, he just threw a tantrum and ended-up in a time out in his room. He wasn't even awake 15 minutes before he found himself sitting on the edge of his bed with the door shut. He has been spending a lot of time this way of late.

This weekend, Daddy has been working at night over at Nathan's new house to help his dad get the house ready for Nathan's family to move-in.  Nathan got a new brother three weeks ago, and now he is getting a new (much bigger) house with a pool.  His daddy has been working on the house every night for the past three weeks to get it ready for the family to move-in, so my daddy has been waking-up in the morning with paint on his hands and ears.  I can't wait until Nathan moves in so that we can use the pool.

On Saturday, we had our Showcase Games at San Juan Capistrano which involved packing-up the truck with the cooler, tents, and chairs for the day.  It was hot and we got beat pretty bad in both games.  In the morning we played the San Diego Surf Academy U8 team.  They beat the team 6-1 that beat us 8-0 last week!  No surprises, they beat us about 15-0, but nobody really knows.  In the second game, we got beat 5-0 by Pateadores from Irvine.  The crazy thing is that my daddy played against the same club teams that we are playing now.  The day was long, hot and dusty.  After waiting around all day for the afternoon game, I made it in for about 5 minutes before sliding into a guy and getting a big strawberry on my thigh.  I had to run off the field and ride the bench until the end of the game.  The only saving grace was that we got giant ice cream cones from Dairy Queen on the way home.

On Sunday, I got my first at-bat against a kid pitcher.  Fall Baseball (Fall Ball) at East Long Beach Pony started this weekend as well.  It is a lot different than Shetland baseball because we have to use hardballs and the kids pitch to us.  At first, I swung at pitches over my head but then took the pitcher deep for a double.  My second at bat was a strike out against my buddy Troy from our All Star Team.  It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be.  Our team won 5-0 and we got to go to the St. Lukes Family Day in the afternoon.  They had two water slides and a dunk tank which was awesome.  It was the perfect way to wrap-up a very hot weekend!
