Fall is Here (week 300)

What a week in the wide world of sports and the life of Benjamin and Christopher!  From baseball and football to cooking and soccer, we made sure that we had an action packed week to provide material for our special 300th weekly blog entry.

Both Chris and I completed our first full week of school.  Christopher goes to St. Luke's three days a week but can't wait to get there.  He loves his lunch box and eats everything in it every single day.  The first thing that he does when he gets to school is to give Maddie a hug.  They are best buddies and run off to play without even saying goodbye to mommy or me.  I go to school five days a week now and seem to like it just as much.  Even though we only speak Spanish in class, I hasn't even raised an eyebrow.  Daddy says I must just think that they speak Spanish in Kindergarten everywhere.  The big news is that I have a new friend named Alena (Ah-lay-nuh).  I have reported that we play together everyday and tickle each other, which I seem to like very much.  Every time someone mentions her name I smile and turn red.

The Angels are in a tight race to try and sneak into the playoffs.  Since they are chasing the Oakland A's, we all went to Angel's Stadium Wednesday night (now a school night), to tailgate and watch the game.  Christopher and I had casadillas in the back of the Edge.  We actually sat on the tailgate, danced in the parking lot, and listened to "Calling all Angels" by Train before we walked into the Stadium.  Our big goal was to catch the National Anthem and see the fireworks, but mommy and daddy were too slow so we had to see the smoke from the parking lot.  It was a perfect, warm night for baseball even though the Angels lost (again).

The Geckos also had their first game of the season against the Yellow Jackets.  We didn't have a ton of confidence going into the game but we pulled off a close one 2-1. In fact, the Yellow Jackets scored the tieing goal but it came after the coach from the other team blew the whistle.  It has been very hot in Long Beach and it was around 100 degrees at game time.  Nate scored the first goal of the season and I scored the game winner on a breakaway in the second half.  My biggest contribution was on defense where I cleared a ball that was on the goal line.  It was very dramatic for the parents.

On the other hand, it was also a week of sport tragedies.  We had a big party on Saturday after our soccer game to watch the Angels play Kansas City and USC play Stanford.  Within the same two hours, the Angels blew a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 9th--giving up two home runs on three pitches.  Daddy embarrassed himself in front of the entire party, and it only got worse when USC blew a 14-7 lead in the fourth quarter and lost to Stanford for the 5th time in the last 6 years.  It was a week of ups and downs in the wide world of sports.
