I thought that Summer was supposed to be about relaxation and vacation. It seems that our Summer is busier than the school year with camps, baseball games, and visitors from out of town. This week we went to an 80s party to eat ice cream and remember our friend Dave; attended El Dorado Park Day Camp; hit the new Cars Land at Disney California Adventure; hung out with Uncle Mark from New York; partied at the Municipal Band Concert; watched the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics; and went to a barbecue at Benny and Aiden's. It was pretty mild weather for the Summer, but we have been eating lots of ice cream and Italian Ices.
Daycamp was cooler than I expected. At first, I was nervous about going to camp because I had never done one through the Parks, Recreation and Marine Department. Each day, camp ran from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm and was packed with activities. It helped that Nathan, Jackson and Logan were also enrolled and that they had a mix of sports, games, and other fund stuff...and that the camp was right outside daddy's office window. I played kickball for the first time, dug for treasure in the playground sand, and played some Fooseball.
Uncle Mark came to town and took us to Disneyland. Aunt Leah works for Disney so we got to go for free as her guests. The only problem was that she had to be at work in New York while we hit Cars Land, ate corndogs, and saw Great Moments with Abraham Lincoln. I was probably most impressed--even with all the crazy rides and roller coasters--with the 50 year-old animatronic version of our 16th President. I couldn't figure out how the "statue" could stand up and talk. The whole idea of someone shooting the President was a little bit overwhelming for me. I asked my dad if they would make robotic versions of us when we died. We were all pretty beat after the long day...Christopher and Maddie even took naps while we were still in the park.
After the Band Concert on Friday night, the Olympics kicked-off in London. The whole idea of the Olympics is pretty impressive. Since I love all games, I get to watch lots of new sports that I have never seen before--swimming races, volleyball, gymnastics, and the rest. Christopher also kicked-off his own first by using the toilet. Actually, he has a mini seat that goes on the regular toilet; and actually, he did half of his business in his diaper first; but, he was pretty proud to finish his business like a big boy. We are hoping that this is the first of many trips to the bathroom and represents the beginning of the end of diapers in the Keisler household.
