The Outpatient (week 257)

Christopher may have giant eyeballs and long eye lashes, but apparently he makes up for it with tiny ear holes. As a result, for the first two years of his life Chubbs has battled chronic ear infections and lots of fluid in his ears. Not only was this incredibly uncomfortable and contributed to many sleepless nights for the entire family, it likely also made it extremely difficult to hear anything clearly. The week before his second birthday, Christopher was finally scheduled to have tiny tubes implanted in his ear canals.

The surgery actually went without a hitch. In fact, our neighbor across the street was on duty and helped Mama and Chris to get in and out. The biggest challenge was keeping Chris from having any food or drink the night before his surgery. By the following afternoon, however, he was his usual self--spinning, running, and jumping. The nurse said that she had to use a suction device to get all the thick fluid out of his ears, so he probably heard talking and music clearly for the first time in his life. He is like a brand new Chubb!

This past weekend, the Silver Sharks also finished the season. It was an epic battle with the Yoshis which included multiple lead changes and ties throughout the match...only being decided by a 4-4 draw in the last 30 seconds of the game. Actually, we got out to a 3-0 start in the first quarter as Robert unleashed all his breakaway fury on the green Yoshis. In an act of mercy, Daddy took out our starting team for the 2nd and 3rd quarters only to allow the Yoshis to storm back and take a 4-3 lead early in the 4th quarter.

Not only did we score on ourselves, but we also jinxed ourselves at halftime when, with a three goal lead Rudy began to jump around in the huddle and chant "we're gonna win". Fortunately, in the last minute Robert bailed us out with a breakaway goal and the game (and season) ended in a 4-4 tie. Much to the parent's dismay, there is still a Friendship Cup in the first week of December, but the Silver Sharks ended the regular season 7-2-1. Not bad for a bunch of 4-year-olds who haven't played before!
