Snow Days (week 318)

Over the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend, we finally made it to the mountains and got ourselves some snow.  In fact, the weather was perfect--50 degrees during the day--and perfect for sledding.  It had been two years since we last went sledding and there was a big difference in what we were able to do on the slopes.  We found a great location with multiple hills (some much bigger than others), so everyone got to test their mettle.  Christopher was extremely unhappy with his pink snow pants (at first), he said that they were "not for boys" and that they "were for (his friend) Maddie", but once he got going downhill he didn't have any qualms with the colors.  He  was a snow tiger--riding the various sleds and sliding a lot on his butt.  In fact, he probably made the most runs of anyone and said that he had a sunburn on his butt after two days of sledding.

Last year, there was no snow at Arrowhead at this time so we didn't make the trip to Sky Forest.  This year, we sort of threw the trip together and the Armstrongs joined us at the church cabin.  Since we were all a bit bigger this year, we spent a lot of time in the basement game room where they have a pool table.  Jackson and I set up the karoke machine and the VCR--with stadium seating--and put on performances and showings most of the day.  Christopher and Emma were the little guys still so there was some fighting over Legos, Leap Pads, and time on the piano.  However, everyone agreed that "The Cat from Outer Space" was one of the best older Disney films of all time.  We ate popcorn, had hot chocolate, and listened to a jazz CD (the only CD in the place) over and over.

We also got to have breakfast at Karen and Phil's new house in Lake Arrowhead.  They have a huge new house with three stories, a bumper pool table and a classic jukebox.  All in all it was a great trip to the mountains and to the snow.  I was sad to head home and both Chris and I wanted more time.
