Father's Day? (week 225)

Since it was Father's Day today, I made sure to wake-up daddy and get him going as early as possible knowing that he was probably dreaming about playing baseball with me. For the most part--at this age--it is up to mommy and daddy to take care of each other on Mother's and Father's Day; to make the cards; to produce the nice breakfast and favorite dinner; and to thank one another for all they do to keep the family going. Ironically, Mother's and Father's Day is more often an attempt to give each other a break from the kids--in recognition of their gratitude for making each other parents. The whole thing is a little confusing to me but I know that both my parents are much more grateful for the sacrifices their own parents made...now that they have an appreciation for what it truly means to be a parent in their own right.

More appropriately, this week has been all about Christopher. He began the week by drawing on the dining room wall with a black marker. Fortunately it was a water-based marker and mommy was fairly successful at washing it out. On day two of the week, daddy caught him putting his favorite gym shorts in the kitchen trash can. I believe he thought he was doing the family a favor since they needed washing. On day three, mommy caught Chris standing on the kitchen table...daddy caught him standing on the patio table...and I found him standing on the ottoman.

We think that his climbing, hitting, and running away is a protest because mommy and daddy are trying to break him of his midnight bottle. In just three weeks, we are all going to Yosemite to camp with a bunch of families at Summerdale. Granted, there are no microwaves to heat-up a bottle...and no refrigerators to keep them cool. So, for the past five nights Christopher has been sleeping in the kitchen (in the pack-in-play) so that we can all sleep. He actually goes to bed in mommy and daddy's room, is transferred into his crib, and moved to the kitchen when he wakes-up crying for his bottle. The funny thing is that he actually sleeps better int there than any other place in the house. He has always been a big fan of the refrigerator so we think he likes sleeping close to its reassuring hum.

School is almost out and summer is almost here! Sports camp, camping and band concerts here we come!
